CARB Certifies Renaissance Tropica EV as Zero-Emission Vehicle

Anaheim, CALIF.--(Dec. 1, 1994) Renaissance Cars, Inc. (RCI) today announced that the California Air Resources Board has certified its 1995 Tropica electric vehicle (EV) as a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV), qualifying purchasers of the vehicle for state income tax credits.

"The Tropica is the first 1995 model vehicle CARB has certified as a ZEV, " said Robert Beaumont, RCI president. "The financial benefits of CARB certification will make this EV even more attractive to the consumer."

According to the California Energy Commission (CEC), CARB-certified low-emissions vehicles such as ZEVs qualify for state income tax credit on 55 percent of the incremental cost--that portion of the cost which exceeds the price of a comparable conventional vehicle--up to $1,000. The CEC has approved an incremental cost of $7,900 for the $15,200 Tropica. This allows purchasers the full $1,000 state tax credit minus any federal tax credits.

The California Clean Air Act authorizes CARB to adopt measures to improve air quality to federal standards. On Sept. 28, 1990, CARB adopted regulations requiring major automobile manufacturers to offer Evs for sale in California by 1998. Renaissance Cars, Inc. is a Palm Bay, Florida, developer and manufacturer of electric vehicles.
